Israel and US have secret deal on settlements

The whole wikileaks thing is mind-blowing. While it can be argued that some of the released documents ‘hurt U.S. interests’, I can’t for the life of me, see that as a bad thing. Besides, that’s a risk I am willing to take…. collateral damage, if you will. US leaders in the past have never shied away from ‘breaking a few eggs’ to make an omelet (We only have to look at US Foreign Policy towards Latin America, during the 80’s). Now the big omelet making glove is on the other hand, there are cries of hurt and injured diplomacy. Shock Horror of Horrors!

During the 2006 Israeli invasion of Lebanon, Condaleeza Rice referred to it as the “Birth Pangs of Democracy”. I think it is far less sick and far more appropriate to refer to this (apparently lamentable) injured diplomacy as birth pangs of democracy. Real Democracy. You, know? The transparent kind.

So, judge for yourself wether the following is information better left unsaid. The following leaked cable, from June 2009, France, suggests that The Israeli Government and the American Government have a secret deal with respects to settlement building. Check it out!
